Before you measure for your shade sail, you’ll need to Install & mark your posts/structure so everything tensions correctly. Your posts or attachment points must be in their final locations first. Installing posts is beyond the scope of this tutorial—please click here for installation instructions or contact us if you have any questions.
If you’re fixing to an existing structure (like your house), make sure you’re drilling into something solid (framing, beams, etc.) so the attachment can safely handle sail tension and wind load.
Choosing your attachment hardware
You can purchase suitable hardware from our website. Common options include:
-
Diagonal Eye Wall Plate – For flat walls (wood or concrete).
-
External / Internal Corner Brackets – For outside or inside building corners.
-
Eye Bolt & Welded Ring – Through a drilled hole in a post or beam, secured with washer and nut.
-
Welded Screw Eye – Screws directly into a solid post or header.
If you’re unsure which to use where, feel free to contact us or send photos of the area you’d like to shade.
Marking your attachment points
Once posts are in and you know which hardware you’ll use:
-
Mark the exact spot where each piece of hardware will sit (a simple “X” is fine).
-
You don’t need to install the hardware yet—just mark the positions.
-
In the next step, you’ll measure from mark to mark, not from the base of the post.
You don’t need to add extra length for hardware or fabric stretch; our software handles that. Precise marks now mean accurate measurements later—and a better result when you Install & mark your posts/structure and tension your sail.
